Allissa Latham is an African American woman from Tuscaloosa, Alabama who now resides in Lowell, Massachusetts. Allissa studied Health Care Management and Spanish at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Upon graduating in 2013, Allissa began her career with Cerner Corporation as an Applications Consultant at Lowell General Hospital. Her knowledge of Cerner’s electronic medical record system and competing systems, in addition to her professionalism and skills were quickly noticed by management causing her to be promoted to Integration Architect in less than 2 years. Allissa is actively obtaining her Master of Business Administration in Healthcare at Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts. She also regularly volunteers at local homeless shelters.
At 11 years old, Allissa was diagnosed with Secondary Sjogrens syndrome. Since her diagnosis, Allissa has regularly received non-invasive chemotherapy treatment. Allissa believes that the only limitations we have are the ones we put on ourselves, and more importantly, we are given the life we have because we are strong enough to live it.
As Miss Massachusetts USA 2018, Allissa will work to bridge the gap between the homeless and healthcare while also spreading a message near and dear to her heart: “It’s okay to not be okay”. Allissa hopes to inspire individuals who are dealing with adversities such as anxiety, depression, and suicide and to help them see the beauty in their journey.
